Matara Wedding Photography - St. John the Baptist Church, Kingscote / Matara Centre

Anthony & Lydia - 9th Aug 2009

Sunday saw me back at Matara for another relaxed wedding with fine weather. I really like the vibe at Matara, the couples that get married here suit my style of photography, leaving me to capture the day with little direction.

Generally adopting a documentary approach to my wedding photography means you don't need to spend ages in front of the camera posing.  I still appreciate the need to cater for some group shots and also couple portraits, but the amount of time assigned to this is entirely up to you.

Lydia wasn't actually there when I arrived at 1 pm, so I had a good opportunity to walk around and photograph the fabulous house where the bridal preps were about to take place and a few guests were also staying - perfect.

Relaxing in the house at Matara....possibly 10 mins to the ceremony no doubt, but as all good men know, getting a smart suit on really only takes two minutes!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Lydia had the smallest mirror you could imagine to apply make-up. I'm not sure where the mirror I saw on the wall last time I was at Matara has gone, but a handbag compact really isn't great for your wedding day - doh!

Note: two in one here - wedding dress photo AND make-up application - wowzers!

Photobucket

Pop!

Photobucket

Jimmy Choo Wedding Shoes made an appearance and I decided they should be shot in the bath.....of course! Lovely details on Lydia's wedding dress too.

Photobucket

Photobucket

"Ok, who knows how to tie one of these". If I had a £1 for every time I hear that line I'd be in the Maldives by now. I still don't know myself though, as all I do is photograph the boys giving it their best shot!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Love this pic. Simple, strong lines, scale and best of all great light........eh voila - into my favs!

Photobucket

The next frame out of camera - sweet too.

Photobucket

Back to the ladies.....now they're not in their undies! Bridesmaids dresses on, bride ready, final tweaks then off we go!

Photobucket

Ta na - "how good do I look ladies?"....

Photobucket

..."yep, you look good, but you need a necklace."

Photobucket

"ohhhh...this Champagne's making me all giggly!"

Photobucket

I'd not been to St. John the Baptist Church before, but it's in Kingscote and on the doorstep of the Matara Center. Most guests walked down as it's literally 5 mins. So for those of you who ask me about a good venue, well, Matara (with it's accommodation on site) and St. John the Baptist Church (down the road) is pretty much as good as it gets.

Photobucket

The calm before the storm - Anthony looks pretty relaxed here huh - calm on the outside, hot under the collar though. PS - Anthony os the one on the right - should you wonder!

Photobucket

Photobucket

"Now then....you can't take photographs for here, here, there, over there, or down there. You can however take some from the balcony 5 miles away from the couple with their backs facing you"

Excellent. Ahhh, I jest, this vicar was actually pretty reasonable and I did get a few frames from the balcony of the important parts....like Anthony quibbling a little!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Uh oh! Not a dry eye in the church. FWIW I may have had the same trouble at my own wedding (being the emotional type). As cool as school as you may be.....when up front with all the emotion of the day, it gets tough!

Photobucket

Bravo.

I was in two minds whether to keep this photo, but I really rather like it. Let's be honest, how many guests do you have coming to your wedding with three arms? One for your handbag, one for the order of service and one for a card - clever thinking. I could shoot with three cameras if I had three arms. There must be a niche market for this multi tasking individual out there somewhere.

Photobucket

Ah ha. Now I've seen a mirrored table plan before, but not at one of my own weddings - how cool is that. I give it 10/10. Good work. Kinda hard to take photos of, but also challenging, which produced some quirky results.

Ohh yeah, and the dude on the left - well you can probably guess what he was doing - the clue is in the shades! (and no mum, they are not his eyelashes)

Photobucket

Photobucket

So, I really believe Matara has 'special' light, as it has to be said, this shot rocks for sweet, sweet light. Taking wedding photos at Matara is great!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Ohh yeah, not only does it have fantastic light by the pond, the woodland is also pretty magical.....just love these few photos.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Back to the mirrored table plan. How often am I able to shoot the table plan and couple walking in to be seated? This time I could.

Photobucket

I now have a new website with more Matara wedding photography, including this stunning summer wedding.

Please take a look, and if you are considering a wedding at Matara or simply looking for a Gloucestershire Wedding Photographer, then get in touch, I'd love to hear from you.

Worcestershire Wedding Photographer - Childswickham Church / Fosse Manor Hotel

David & Amy - 2nd Aug 2009

I first met David and Amy what seems like ages ago.....but yet again 12+ months soon whizzed by and here we are on the wedding day. I'd chatted with Amy a fair bit on the run up to her big day to flesh out the details and what would be best in terms of coverage.

Anyone planning a wedding (who's booked with me), feel free to drop me a line for great suggestions on how to make a day run smoothly, and a few tips taken from the 100's of weddings I've photographed.

Thankfully we had a dry day and some super evening sun to take advantage of my time later on. Everyone was great on the day, I sat with some fine guests, ate lovely food and even got to take some cake & sweeties home - that's one very big tick from both me, Daisy and my wife!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Is Amy praying for good weather? Ummm!? Or maybe that Dave turn up! LOL.

Photobucket

Ahhhh, another backlit wedding dress photo. Good job she's not wearing green knickers - ummmm????

Photobucket

Somewhere over a "......." Possibly the most popular choice for wedding shoes. Jimmy Choo are a close second.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Peepo - "now get out Matt.......I have no pants on!" Ahh ok, maybe not, but makes for a better story.

Photobucket

Why are we fascinated with photos of wedding dresses being buttoned up? They do work really well though - perhaps I've answered my own question!
Photobucket

Photobucket

Off to Childswickham Church, which I later found out holds sentimental value as Davids mum is buried there.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Such a glowing look (can I say that being a bloke or is that a bit wussy?), love it anyway.

Photobucket

Right, at this point it's worth noting two things:
(1) The dude helping with the dress is actually the chauffeur (where's the bridesmaids!?!?) School girl error ladies.
(2) I can't see you Amy. Doh! Quick change of plan by me and just managed a snap from the side too - phew!

Photobucket

Handy these balconies - I've had a couple recently and can highly recommend taking a shot from up there.

Photobucket

Gran - gotta love gran.

Photobucket

Now then ladies. You missed helping the bride outa the car, now you're pulling funny faces? What gives? Classic bit of dress adjustment too - pretty much standard for most weddings I cover: one outa four ladies will be hitching their dress up in ANY photo I take, guaranteed.

Photobucket

Dum dum de dum. Straight past the collection dish too - you'd think they'd stop and contribute!

Photobucket

Get her David - go on, give her a smacker!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

OK so this was the tough bit for me. I've mentioned before I'm sure, but I'm an emotional type of guy - well when it comes to some things anyhow. David telling me he was going to put a flower on his mums grave stone did bring a tear to me eye. Do I shoot it, don't I? I decided on the former and am really pleased I did. A very touching moment.

Photobucket

Look, he's all over her again - get a room.

Photobucket

Ah ha....this is a shot for the ladies. Yep, that's what all the bridesmaids hair looked like from behind. This wedding hair take a bit of thinking about I believe, so it's always nice to see four barents in a row!

Photobucket

.....meanwhile the men looked on laughing about how long it took the ladies to get ready in comparison to them!

Photobucket

I think this shot should make a postcard .

Photobucket

Photobucket

Ummm the sweeties. Why thank you, I did indeed have a little bag - mainly preferring the shrimps and pink jelly beans.

Photobucket

Photobucket

.....yeah, you might laugh about the dress incident now, but what would have happened if we hadn't had the chauffeur to help huh!?

Photobucket

Din dins.....move it, move it, bums on seats please.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Yep, Dave met Amy at Tramps nightclub (Worcester)....and admitted it during his speech - school boy error no. 1

This weekend was wedding veil day. It took a few goes to get something and only once did Dave rip it out of Amys hair! School boy error no. 2, you soon learn though.

Love this wedding couple portrait - backlit, evening sun - absolutely the best you can get!
