Wedding Photography Tortworth Court, Bristol

Greg & Natalie - 9th May 2009

Let's get it out the way to start of with.......ANOTHER DRY WEDDING. Game on.....that's 6/6 so far this year. However, with this Saturday fast approaching, (and having seen the BBC's doom & gloom report), I'm worried my luck is about to run out.

Last Saturday I shot a short wedding (in terms of coverage required) at Tortworth Court. It's an impressive building, set amongst well established grounds and gardens. I must confess, it did come with one obstacle though.....he wore a red coat and was an elderly gentleman. Ok he was a rather annoying Toastmaster. I could mince my words here and paint a more rosy picture, but if someone was planning on making my life anymore stressful on a wedding day then he was it! I'll make a suggestion at this point to anyone else considering a Toastmaster for their wedding......they can be great, and they can be a PITA. If you're after natural shots and a wedding day that feels relaxed & informal, then don't go there! A beautiful photo of you two + the guy in the red jacket really isn't what you'll be putting in your album. OK, rant over, let's move on......!

So another hot day was had, coverage for me was shorter than usual (only 4 hours compared to my average 10 for the last few weddings), hence photo opportunities were in shorter supply. None the less, I got some great moments, cool portraits of the couple and the obligatory group shots - gotta love 'em! Ohh yeah, I do take these by the way, just rarely show 'em on my blog!

It was 'suggested' by the Toastmaster that I should be taking a photo of the bride walking down these stairs. Fair enough, yeah, it'll make a nice photo I guess. So why walk two paces in front of them the whole way down? Arrrrrrrgh!

I love this shot above. It's a real photographers photo, so work with it even if you think it's shit. I do appreciate you can't see his face (worry not), there are others where you can!

Sweet....with my back to a HUGE window I had LOADS of light to play with and one bride walking straight into it.

Cool camera grip by this lady......I may adopt it myself, looks quite posh!

As Greg & Natalie left the marriage ceremony the light was fantastic - check out their beaming smiles.

This shot above is pretty much a classic that wouldn't be out of place in even your mum & dads wedding album. Maybe not trademark Matt Davis, but a taste of tradition for a change. Below is my take on a car, a venue and a couple. I love it when a plan comes together.

As a professional photographer you feel obliged to only show 'pro' pictures. However, sometimes the moment will be missed if you head off round the house to find a DSLR, insert a CF card, check the battery power, fit a lens, select a setting then finally press the shutter.

This moment with Barnaby is one such example and was snapped with my trusty Point & Shoot. Ali had popped him in Daisy's bed whilst getting ready in the morning. Daisy had decided he needed a few additional friends to accompany him.....how cute.
